SUMMARY:How to lead people toward a common good
DESCRIPTION:Democracy\, Faith and the Common Good: Post-Election Debriefs and Exploration of Next Steps\n\n\n\nThe 2020 presidential election is now over. Yet\, some results are still not clear. Will the outcome of the U.S. presidential elections be fought in the courts? Or will the 279 electoral votes garnered by President-elect Biden and Vice President Elect Harris still stand? \n\n\n\nThe questions this election raises are more pertinent than ever. \n\n\n\nHow solid are democratic institutions in the States? What repair work needs to be done? Will social inequities be addressed in a substantive way? What is the role of faith leaders in this time? With a clearly divided nation\, can Americans ever truly speak of a “common good? \n\n\n\nJoin Rebekah Simon-Peter\, Chief Visionary of Creating a Culture of Renewal\, for the latest in her Uncomfortable Conversation Series: Democracy\, Faith and the Common Good. In this session\, which will take place on Zoom\, she and a panel of guests will discuss how to lead people toward a common good. Guests include Rev. Terrell McTyer\, contributor to Faithful Innovation: Beginning a Conversation for a Post-Covid Church and Minister of New Church Strategies for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada\, and Rev. Burry Bessee\, mother-in-law of a defeated senator\, who has successfully navigated deep divides in her family\, congregation\, and community. \n\n\n\nThe Uncomfortable Conversation Series was born out of the national unrest Americans are currently experiencing. This series is designed to engage spiritual leaders in deep listening and heartfelt discussion\, to expand emotional intelligence and to generate renewal during these unprecedented times. Developing solutions for these difficult systemic issues is not easy. It will take all of us to raise consciousness to bring about change.
