SUMMARY:Sacred Resistance: Moving Disciples from the Sanctuary to the Streets
DESCRIPTION:Recently\, Disciples have been starkly reminded of our call to be a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As the news cycle shares horrifying images and videos from the streets of Minneapolis\, Chicago\, and other cities in the United States\, Bible verses have been shared by Christians across the theological and political spectrum. Some have been used to uphold federal orders\, and others to encourage mercy\, compassion\, and welcome. Our Minister of New Church Strategies\, Rev. Dr. Jose Martinez\, joined guest panelists Rev. Dr. Jia Starr Brown and Rev. Tanya Lopez on Wednesday\, February 25 at 3:00 PM EST for the first IMPACT webinar of the year as New Church Ministry discussed what is happening and what our responses could be as Disciples of Christ. \n\n\n\nNew Church Ministry proudly presents IMPACT\, a new webinar series that welcomes you on a captivating journey of storytelling and deep mutual learning. In each episode\, host and Minister of New Church Strategies Rev. Dr. Jose Martinez invites guests who have defied conventions and fostered vibrant communities of faith to share their invaluable experiences and personal narratives. By exploring the challenges\, triumphs\, and transformative moments of these visionary leaders\, attendees gain invaluable inspiration and direction for their own ventures.  \n\n\n\nThis dynamic series embraces diversity\, welcoming influential leaders from a multitude of faith traditions and backgrounds. From established religious institutions to emerging spiritual movements\, IMPACT showcases a broad spectrum of voices and perspectives\, ensuring participants have a rich tapestry of insights to draw from. While each of its speakers bring a distinct approach and innovative strategies to the table\, equipping participants with a toolkit of ideas to create thriving\, inclusive places of worship that resonate with today’s seekers\, IMPACT emphasizes the power of storytelling as a catalyst for change.

SUMMARY:IMPACT: Micro-Activism
DESCRIPTION:Everyone can be an activist with the guidance of Omkari Williams\, a life coach who guides readers of Micro Activism: How You Can Make a Difference in the World without a Bullhorn in identifying their “activist archetype” and mapping a personal action plan for engaging in small\, change-making activities with potentially big impacts. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn this age of social justice\, those who don’t necessarily want to lead a movement or join a protest march are left wondering\, “How can I make an impact?” In Micro Activism\, former political consultant turned activism coach Omkari Williams shares her expertise in empowering introverts and highly sensitive people to help each of us\, no matter our temperament\, find our most satisfying and effective activist role. Using Williams’s Activist Archetype tool\, readers discover their unique strengths and use this to develop a personal strategy. To ensure sustainable involvement\, Williams encourages starting small\, working collaboratively\, and beginning locally. Advice on self-care practices\, burn-out prevention\, and profiles of activists engaged in a range of activities and causes (from voter registration to craftivism\, literacy programs\, community gardens\, and more)\, provide readers with the inspiration and practical know-how needed to engage in small\, doable actions that make a lasting impact. \n\n\n\nMinister of New Church Strategies and webinar host Rev. Dr. Jose Martinez will be interviewing Ms. Williams about her work and her book of the same title in New Church Ministry‘s latest IMPACT episode. You may purchase her book here: https://www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/omkari-williams/micro-activism/9781635866889/. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIMPACT is a webinar series that welcomes you on a captivating journey of storytelling and deep mutual learning. SUMMARY:DisciplesNEXT: The future of New Church?
DESCRIPTION:Join New Church Ministry for a candid conversation between Rev. Dr. Jose Martinez\, Minister of New Church Strategies\, and Rev. Wesley King\, Program Coordinator. In this IMPACT webinar\, they’ll discuss how DisciplesNEXT offers a framework for church growth in a pandemic-informed context\, and how it can help set a course for the future of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada. \n\n\n\nWhen the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) reached the two-decade goal of “starting 1\,000 churches in 1\,000 different ways\,” we might have relished celebrating our achievements. But 2020 was also marked by a racial reckoning\, a climate crisis\, and a global pandemic. Meanwhile\, the work of the 2020 Vision was far from complete. So\, New Church Ministry began shaping a framework for the future\, informed by the crises of the day\, yet based on Disciples fundamentals: our identity\, vision\, and mission.[1] \n\n\n\nDisciplesNEXT — which draws upon our core identity as a “movement for wholeness in a fragmented world” — strives to counter the church’s historic tendency to colonize as a means of growth. Instead\, DisciplesNEXT offers a methodology to train leaders as movement initiators that foster faithful communities; communities that exhibit the marks of the faithful church: true community\, deep Christian spirituality\, and a passion for justice. \n\n\n\nWhile this movement will\, naturally\, take many forms\, New Church Ministry aims to approach today’s challenges by equipping leaders to live into the Disciples Mission: “To be and to share the good news of Jesus Christ\, witnessing\, loving\, and serving from our doorsteps ‘to the ends of the Earth’.” \n\n\n\nTo equip Disciples movement initiators DisciplesNEXT will foster three core competencies in our leaders: Contemplative Action\, Prophetic Advocacy and Faith-Rooted Organizing. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n[1]Disciples Mission\, Vision\, and Confession
