SUMMARY:2026 General Assembly
DESCRIPTION:The whole church throughout the United States and Canada\, is invited to attend General Assembly 2026. Ephesians 3:14-21 invites the Stone-Campbell tradition of today and tomorrow to be rooted and grounded in the love of God that surpasses knowledge and barriers to build fuller relationships and ministries led by the limitless love of God. The prayer that calls to the church in Ephesus also calls the Christian Church to set a bigger table that surpasses our previous capacity.More than just a series of meetings\, General Assembly is a covenantal table set for education\, discussion\, worship\, business\, fellowship\, and action. Each congregation is invited to boldly claim their covenantal place at the table by inviting everyone to attend online and by prayerfully designating 3 delegates to vote at General Assembly. Meeting every year online will allow more Disciples to connect more frequently and to work together more fully “to be the church we say we are.” If you’ve never attended General Assembly before\, a special welcome is extended to you. \n\n\n\nOne and all\, individuals\, Congregations\, General Ministries\, Regional Ministries\, Ministry partners\, and friends are invited to actively participate in our new way of being church and our church wide resolve to embody and share God’s surpassing love as we gather in July. \n\n\n\nFor these reasons: \n\n\n\n\nTranslation through closed captioning will be available in 5 languages including Spanish\, Korean\, French\, English\, and Chinese\, in the hope of removing language and accessibility barriers.\n\n\n\nYou can participate at a local gathering or on your personal device in the hope of removing the barriers of geography and isolation. The tech team has worked hard to make sure that GA is accessible and to train Regional and Congregational tech leaders to ensure that they didn’t create a new digital divide within the church.\n\n\n\nThe format and schedule include a Topic for Education\, Discussion\, and Prayer and time for dialogue to move beyond brief discussion accessible only to persons that attend GA in-person to include more voices from across the whole church.

SUMMARY:Sacred Resistance: Moving Disciples from the Sanctuary to the Streets
DESCRIPTION:Recently\, Disciples have been starkly reminded of our call to be a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As the news cycle shares horrifying images and videos from the streets of Minneapolis\, Chicago\, and other cities in the United States\, Bible verses have been shared by Christians across the theological and political spectrum. Some have been used to uphold federal orders\, and others to encourage mercy\, compassion\, and welcome. Our Minister of New Church Strategies\, Rev. Dr. Jose Martinez\, joined guest panelists Rev. Dr. Jia Starr Brown and Rev. Tanya Lopez on Wednesday\, February 25 at 3:00 PM EST for the first IMPACT webinar of the year as New Church Ministry discussed what is happening and what our responses could be as Disciples of Christ. \n\n\n\nNew Church Ministry proudly presents IMPACT\, a new webinar series that welcomes you on a captivating journey of storytelling and deep mutual learning. In each episode\, host and Minister of New Church Strategies Rev. Dr. Jose Martinez invites guests who have defied conventions and fostered vibrant communities of faith to share their invaluable experiences and personal narratives. By exploring the challenges\, triumphs\, and transformative moments of these visionary leaders\, attendees gain invaluable inspiration and direction for their own ventures.  \n\n\n\nThis dynamic series embraces diversity\, welcoming influential leaders from a multitude of faith traditions and backgrounds. From established religious institutions to emerging spiritual movements\, IMPACT showcases a broad spectrum of voices and perspectives\, ensuring participants have a rich tapestry of insights to draw from. While each of its speakers bring a distinct approach and innovative strategies to the table\, equipping participants with a toolkit of ideas to create thriving\, inclusive places of worship that resonate with today’s seekers\, IMPACT emphasizes the power of storytelling as a catalyst for change.

SUMMARY:IMPACT: Micro-Activism
DESCRIPTION:Everyone can be an activist with the guidance of Omkari Williams\, a life coach who guides readers of Micro Activism: How You Can Make a Difference in the World without a Bullhorn in identifying their “activist archetype” and mapping a personal action plan for engaging in small\, change-making activities with potentially big impacts. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn this age of social justice\, those who don’t necessarily want to lead a movement or join a protest march are left wondering\, “How can I make an impact?” In Micro Activism\, former political consultant turned activism coach Omkari Williams shares her expertise in empowering introverts and highly sensitive people to help each of us\, no matter our temperament\, find our most satisfying and effective activist role. Using Williams’s Activist Archetype tool\, readers discover their unique strengths and use this to develop a personal strategy. To ensure sustainable involvement\, Williams encourages starting small\, working collaboratively\, and beginning locally. Advice on self-care practices\, burn-out prevention\, and profiles of activists engaged in a range of activities and causes (from voter registration to craftivism\, literacy programs\, community gardens\, and more)\, provide readers with the inspiration and practical know-how needed to engage in small\, doable actions that make a lasting impact. \n\n\n\nMinister of New Church Strategies and webinar host Rev. Dr. Jose Martinez will be interviewing Ms. Williams about her work and her book of the same title in New Church Ministry‘s latest IMPACT episode. You may purchase her book here: https://www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/omkari-williams/micro-activism/9781635866889/. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIMPACT is a webinar series that welcomes you on a captivating journey of storytelling and deep mutual learning. SUMMARY:The Past\, Present\, and Future of New Church
DESCRIPTION:A Conversation with Rev. Dr. Dick Hamm\n\n\n\nAs New Church Ministry begins to roll out DisciplesNEXT across the denomination\, we first look to where this church growth framework began: the 2020 Vision. In this IMPACT webinar episode with 2020 Vision for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) author and former General Minister and President\, Rev. Dr. Dick Hamm\, he and host Rev. Dr. Jose Martinez\, Minister of New Church Strategies\, will examine all that has led to where we are now and what is next for the New Church movement in our tradition. \n\n\n\nResources\n\n\n\n\nThe Four Priorities of the Church\n\n\n\nUpdated priorities\n\n\n\n2020 Vision for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) (book)\n\n\n\nDisciplesNEXT\n\n\n\nIdentity Resources\n\n\n\nThe Design of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)\n\n\n\nPatriotic Heresy – Countering Christian Nationalism\n\n\n\nDick Hamm’s contact information\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRichard L. Hamm attended Butler University (B.A. Religion\, 1970) and Christian Theological Seminary (Dr. of Ministry\, 1974) in Indianapolis. SUMMARY:DisciplesNEXT: The future of New Church?
DESCRIPTION:Join New Church Ministry for a candid conversation between Rev. Dr. Jose Martinez\, Minister of New Church Strategies\, and Rev. Wesley King\, Program Coordinator. In this IMPACT webinar\, they’ll discuss how DisciplesNEXT offers a framework for church growth in a pandemic-informed context\, and how it can help set a course for the future of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada. \n\n\n\nWhen the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) reached the two-decade goal of “starting 1\,000 churches in 1\,000 different ways\,” we might have relished celebrating our achievements. But 2020 was also marked by a racial reckoning\, a climate crisis\, and a global pandemic. Meanwhile\, the work of the 2020 Vision was far from complete. So\, New Church Ministry began shaping a framework for the future\, informed by the crises of the day\, yet based on Disciples fundamentals: our identity\, vision\, and mission.[1] \n\n\n\nDisciplesNEXT — which draws upon our core identity as a “movement for wholeness in a fragmented world” — strives to counter the church’s historic tendency to colonize as a means of growth. Instead\, DisciplesNEXT offers a methodology to train leaders as movement initiators that foster faithful communities; communities that exhibit the marks of the faithful church: true community\, deep Christian spirituality\, and a passion for justice. \n\n\n\nWhile this movement will\, naturally\, take many forms\, New Church Ministry aims to approach today’s challenges by equipping leaders to live into the Disciples Mission: “To be and to share the good news of Jesus Christ\, witnessing\, loving\, and serving from our doorsteps ‘to the ends of the Earth’.” \n\n\n\nTo equip Disciples movement initiators DisciplesNEXT will foster three core competencies in our leaders: Contemplative Action\, Prophetic Advocacy and Faith-Rooted Organizing. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n[1]Disciples Mission\, Vision\, and Confession

SUMMARY:Women Living into Hard and Holy Calls
DESCRIPTION:“Tell me a fact and I’ll learn. Tell me a truth and I’ll believe. But tell me a story and it will live in my heart forever.” \n\n\n\n\nJust as we learn from the stories recorded in scripture\, we can learn from the stories of how God is moving in our lives today.  \n\n\n\nOn International Women’s Day\, New Church Ministry will feature two fascinating female ministers\, change-makers\, and leaders in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) as guests on its latest New Church Hacks episode. Throughout their journey\, these women have been faced with adversity and defeat\, but have led with empowerment and liberation. Come and join us as we listen to these two amazing stories of how God ordained both of these women into hard and holy calls. \n\n\n\nGuests\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRev. Christy Jo Harber was born and raised in West Tennessee and received a Bachelors in Nonprofit Leadership from Murray State University. She graduated from Vanderbilt Divinity School in Nashville\, TN\, in 2017 with a Master of Divinity. She served as Associate Pastor at Eastwood Christian Church (2017-2020) in Nashville TN. \n\n\n\nChristy Jo began a wild and holy adventure serving as Woodland Christian Church’s Lead Pastor in Lexington\, KY at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. She is excited to share what God has been up to since her church learned it couldn’t return from virtual worship to the sanctuary and would need over a million dollars for building repair. \n\n\n\nChristy Jo is always looking and listening for the new thing God is doing. She is passionate about sharing the message of the liberating love of God and the intersectionality of race\, gender\, and sexuality. For fun she enjoys learning about the enneagram\, going hiking\, and exploring waterfalls! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReverend Erin Edwards is the lead pastor and founder of LOP( Live on Purpose) Community Church\, in Davis/Vacaville\, CA. Married in 2017 to her wife Chelsea\, they welcomed twin daughters\, Erilee and Evagrae\, in January 2019. Erin also became ordained in the Disciples of Christ during the pandemic and is co-pastor at the Christian Church of Woodland\, CA (Disciples of Christ). \n\n\n\nErin graduated with a Master’s degree in Ministry and Theology and is currently attending the Pacific School of Religion\, Berkeley for her Doctorate in Ministry. \n\n\n\nAs a gay\, African-American woman in ministry\, Erin is no stranger to opposition. Because of this\, Erin has been equipped with an understanding of the marginalized and has used it as a platform to combat injustice. With a passion for what God has for His people in the here and now\, Pastor Erin promotes a life lived not only with purpose but on purpose. Her voice and story speak directly to the soul\, waking people up to encounter and live out their God-given dreams. \n\n\n\nPastor Erin and Chelsea strive to build a community in which all people are free to experience the love of God\, regardless of age\, gender\, sexuality\, race\, etc.

SUMMARY:Creating Best Practices for Creation Care
DESCRIPTION:Hurricanes. Floods. Heatwaves. Our world is experiencing an increased amount of these natural disasters because of rising temperatures. What can Disciples do to address climate change and be responsible stewards of the environment? Learn the answer to this question and much more with host and Transitional Minister of New Church Strategies\, Rev. Dr. Jose Martinez\, at New Church Ministry’s New Church Hacks webinar. \n\n\n\nPanellists\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDavid Bell is the Minister for Indigenous Justice at the Center for Indigenous Ministries (DOC). In this role\, David has helped guide the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) to recognize its settler-colonist roots\, repudiate the Doctrine of Discovery\, become more honest with its racist origins\, and engage in action-based Indigenous justice. \n\n\n\nThe son of Robert and Kay Bell\, David lives on the JustLiving Farm\, located in the Toppenish Creek valley of the Yakama Nation. With friends and neighbors\, the JustLiving Farm has become a place where folk are welcome to spend time talking about\, imagining\, and acting in favor of Creational justice. Believing creational wholeness and harmony is at our fingertips\, David invites us to question how our lives intersect with our local landscape\, listen for Creation’s insight to enhance our sibling’s well-being\, and open ourselves to her plea for action. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDan Paul is the Senior Pastor of First Christian Church of Huntsville\, TX. He will be consulting in oversight of Blue Theology with Creation Justice Ministries and will be part of the staff at the Blue Theology Outpost in Texas City\, Texas. He previously served at the Christian Church of Pacific Grove where he was the director of the Blue Theology Mission Station on the Monterey Bay. \n\n\n\n\n“In a time where there is a lot of ‘bad theology’ preached denying the climate crisis\, it is crucial that mainline church leaders speak out about how human beings are interdependent with nature and not removed from it.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBrooks Berndt is the UCC’s Environmental Justice Minister. Before becoming the UCC Minister for Environmental Justice in 2015\, Berndt served as a pastor in Vancouver\, Washington\, where he was active in two successful environmental campaigns: transitioning the state of Washington away from its only coal plant and preventing the establishment of the largest marine oil terminal in the country in Vancouver. Berndt is the author of two books: Sounding the Trumpet: How Churches Can Answer God’s Call to Justice and Cathedral on Fire!: A Church Handbook for the Climate Crisis. As the Minister for Environmental Justice\, Berndt led the way in the issuing of the UCC’s 2020 report entitled “Breath to the People: Sacred Air and Toxic Pollution” which identifies 100 of the nation’s super polluters and how their toxic emissions threaten communities and children\, especially in places such as Houston\, Louisiana’s Cancer Alley\, and Ohio’s Lake Erie coast. Berndt writes and edits an environmental justice newsletter called The Pollinator\, while co-hosting monthly Creation Justice Webinars which have featured everyone from the climate scientist Katherine Hayhoe to Senator Cory Booker.

SUMMARY:Navigating Grief in Children and Youth Ministry
DESCRIPTION:Season 4\, Episode 2\n\n\n\n\n\nOur young people have been through a lot of compound grief in the last several years. Between school shootings and other forms of mass gun violence\, racial injustice\, and the ever-growing climate crisis\, the youth in our communities are feeling the stresses of our society on top of a global pandemic that has killed over 6 million people. How do you minister to them during this time? In this New Church Hacks episode\, our panellists will explore tangible ways we can minister to our young people and help them navigate the grief they are experiencing. \n\n\n\nPANELLISTS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChristle Reed has worked in the education field for over 10 years. Each year has been directly focused on servicing the social/emotional needs of her students. She is also a published author with one of her books\, Hugs from the Sky\, being used across the United States to help support students with properly grieving the loss of a loved one. Mariah loves to spend her free time with her husband and their dog hiking and gardening. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoselyn Spence serves as the Director of the National Benevolent Association (NBA)’s Mental Health and Wellness Initiative. SUMMARY:Terrell McTyer's farewell party
DESCRIPTION:Join us to say goodbye to our Minister of New Church Strategies\, Pastor Terrell L. McTyer! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVisit the New Church Ministry Facebook page to watch a live send-off filled with tributes and speakers from across the denomination. \n\n\n\nIf Terrell has made an impact on the life of your faith community (and we’re sure he has)\, make sure to leave a comment under the video. \n\n\n\nTerrell began his work with us in August 2016\, as the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada was already successfully nearing the 2020 Vision goal to form 1\,000 new Disciples congregations. Our ministry continued the momentum of this achievement by convening the New Church Summit\, which set new aspirations for the movement to “make one million new disciples by 2030.” \n\n\n\nUnder his leadership\, the New Church Leadership Cooperative was established to bring together the dedicated leaders and teams of regional new church work to share in the strengthening practices of emerging congregations. \n\n\n\nWith an emphasis on the spiritual grounding of the movement\, Terrell oversaw the launch of Water the Plants — a weekly prayer initiative that has hosted multiple prayer summits. \n\n\n\nOn December 21\, Terrell accepted a position as Executive Director of Global Marketing and Innovation at The Upper Room\, an ecumenical ministry dedicated to supporting the spiritual life of Christians around the world. \n\n\n\nJose Martinez\, Associate Minister of New Church Strategies\, will join Terrell in overlapping leadership until the end of January\, when McTyer begins his new role. \n\n\n\nMartinez has planted churches\, launched innovative ministries\, and served in hospital and military chaplaincy. He joined the New Church Ministry Team in 2019. \n\n\n\nMartinez co-planted Multi Nation Christian Church\, the largest and only Haitian Ministry in the Midwest for the Disciples of Christ. He also founded MissioKC\, a micro-church based in Kansas City\, Mo.\, focused on “helping make the world around us a spiritually healthier place.”

SUMMARY:Crucial Hacks to Decolonize Your Church
DESCRIPTION:Season 3\, Episode 4\n\n\n\n\n\nIn recent years\, the term “decolonization” has entered popular vocabulary\, drawing attention to the role of religious organizations in gentrification and the history of colonial oppression. This subject is complex and frequently fraught with contradicting ideas about defining religious ideals\, colonialism\, and its victims. How can congregations uphold their standards while actively combating social injustice? In this New Church Hacks episode\, we unpacked these ideas and: \n\n\n\n\nFocused on anti-racism as an approach to church development and community engagement\n\n\n\nCreated space for conversations and practical ways in which to shape and reshape congregational DNA to reflect anti-racist discipleship\n\n\n\nRaised awareness of the ways in which your congregation is colonialistic \n\n\n\n\nHost Pastor Terrell McTyer was joined by featured guests Brandon Wrencher (Minister and Organizer of the Good Neighbor Movement)\, Naomi Washington-Leapheart (Director for Faith-Based and Interfaith Affairs for the City of Philadelphia and Faith Work Director for the National LGBTQ Task Force)\, and Chris Morton (Regional Minister of Disciples of Christ in Nebraska and Director of Cotner College Educational Ministries). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNew Church Hacks provides practical (and sometimes peculiar) prompts for churches from start to restart. This free webinar series is jam-packed with clever solutions to tricky problems and empowers courageous leaders with the tools\, tips and how-tos to start\, sustain and strengthen congregations. For regular updates\, be sure to check this page and follow along on social media with #NewChurchHacks! \n\n\n\nA link to a recording of the webinar will be emailed to all registrants after the episode airs\, regardless of attendance. \n\n\n\nYou can either view the webinar on Zoom by registering below or by watching Terrell\, Brandon\, Naomi\, and Chris live on New Church Ministry’s Facebook page.

SUMMARY:Disciples Virtual Gathering workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Disciples Virtual Gathering is an opportunity for Disciples to connect\, learn\, worship\, and imagine new ways of gathering as church. \n\n\n\nOur day together will focus on the covenant we share as Disciples and the promise of Romans 8:38-39 that nothing can separate us from the love of God. The program will consist of bible lectures\, educational workshops\, and worship service\, with invited speakers and presenters focusing on our theme. \n\n\n\nAs a proud sponsor of this virtual event\, New Church Ministry will be presenting a workshop in Session 1. \n\n\n\nHybrid Church: Combining Online and In-person Communities\n\n\n\nCreating a hybrid church extends beyond Sunday morning\, but bringing online and offline worship attendees together is only one step. To align your congregation with digital culture through hybrid experiences\, we must find more creative practices than providing a stream into our events. In this hybrid workshop\, we will explore with participants what it means to bridge offline and online in faith formation and spiritual practice; help attendees deepen faith formation with technology; support spiritual practice and authentic connection across multiple platforms; discover good ideas to blend in-person worship with an online component — permanently; and form diverse teams and make mission plans more efficient. \n\n\n\nPresenter: Pastor Terrell L.
