SUMMARY:CCDA National Conference
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join Rev. Dr. Jose Martinez\, interim Minister of New Church Strategies\, at the Christian Community Development Organization‘s 2022 conference\, where the theme is wellbeing. Here is more information about the event: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTogether\, we will seek Wellbeing for our world\, for our nation\, for our communities\, and for each other. Wellbeing isn’t just about being happy. Rather\, Wellbeing is about finding fulfillment in what we do each day\, the quality of our relationships\, the vibrancy of our spiritual health\, the vitality of our organizations\, and the love we experience in our communities. \n\n\n\nYou can prioritize your Wellbeing by building authentic connections with other Christian Community Development (CCD) leaders and organizers gathered in Charlotte. While there\, you will be able to hear inspirational and relevant sermons\, expand your network of support\, and learn how to help your community experience Wellbeing. \n\n\n\nThis year’s gathering is inspired by Isaiah 40: 29 – 31 which reminds us that God gives power to the faint and strength to the powerless. In other words\, when we “wait” for the Lord\, we can rejoice in knowing that though we sometimes become weary and exhausted\, there remains a path to renewed Wellbeing. CCDA’s National Conference can be your place of “waiting”\, as you seek to remain faithful to God’s call to seek justice with and for the marginalized. \n\n\n\n[God] gives power to the faint\, and strengthens the powerless. Even youths will faint and be weary\, and the young will fall exhausted; but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength\, they shall mount up with wings like eagles\, they shall run and not be weary\, they shall walk and not faint.\nIsaiah 40:29-31\, NRSV\n\nWill you join us on this path to WELLBEING? We can’t wait to see you in Charlotte 🙌🏾

SUMMARY:Navigating Grief in Children and Youth Ministry
DESCRIPTION:Season 4\, Episode 2\n\n\n\n\n\nOur young people have been through a lot of compound grief in the last several years. Between school shootings and other forms of mass gun violence\, racial injustice\, and the ever-growing climate crisis\, the youth in our communities are feeling the stresses of our society on top of a global pandemic that has killed over 6 million people. How do you minister to them during this time? In this New Church Hacks episode\, our panellists will explore tangible ways we can minister to our young people and help them navigate the grief they are experiencing. \n\n\n\nPANELLISTS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChristle Reed has worked in the education field for over 10 years. Each year has been directly focused on servicing the social/emotional needs of her students. She is also a published author with one of her books\, Hugs from the Sky\, being used across the United States to help support students with properly grieving the loss of a loved one. Outside of serving her students and writing\, she enjoys spending time with her husband and three amazing kids.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMariah Newell is an ordained minister who serves as the Kids\, Youth\, and Family Minister at Cypress Creek Christian Church in Northwest Houston\, Texas. Mariah has spent the last five years serving at Cypress Creek. Before that\, she served as the Program Director at Camp MoVal in Union\, Missouri. Ministering to kids and youth is where Mariah has and continues to feel called to serve. She feels passionate about telling others about the compassion\, innovation\, radical inclusion\, and love she sees the younger generations bring to the Table that tends to be overlooked or unappreciated. Mariah loves to spend her free time with her husband and their dog hiking and gardening. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoselyn Spence serves as the Director of the National Benevolent Association (NBA)’s Mental Health and Wellness Initiative. In this position\, she works to design and implement programs that promote holistic wellness across all NBA programs. Joselyn has a wealth of experience in mental health and community care. As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Registered Art Therapist (ATR)\, she received advanced education and training to provide trauma-informed services to diverse groups of people of all races\, backgrounds\, and ages from 3 to 80. Joselyn is a Registered Yoga and Meditation teacher (RYT-200)\, who has created embodied bible study experiences for the community. She is passionate about mental health care\, holistic wellness\, communal care ethics\, and spirituality. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRev. Margie Quinn hails from Nashville\, Tennessee. She is an ordained minister through the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and received her Master of Divinity in the spring of 2019 with a concentration in Preaching and a certificate in Gender\, Sexuality and Theology. \n\n\n\nMargie grew up working at summer camps across the southeast. She has been passionate about young people for as long as she can remember. Margie has served as the Summer Camp Director at Christmount Retreat Center in Black Mountain\, North Carolina and the Program Director at Bethany Hills Camp in Kingston Springs\, Tennessee. She is thrilled to continue her work in youth and young adult ministry as the Youth and Young Adult Minister at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Margie also coaches ultimate frisbee at a local Jewish middle school. Margie is the proud aunt of seven nieces and nephews.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNew Church Hacks provides practical (and sometimes peculiar) prompts for churches from start to restart. This free webinar series\, hosted by Jose Martinez (interim Minister of New Church Strategies)\, is jam-packed with clever solutions to tricky problems and empowers courageous leaders with the tools\, tips and how-tos to start\, sustain and strengthen congregations. For regular updates\, be sure to check this page and follow along on social media with #NewChurchHacks! \n\n\n\nA link to a recording of the webinar will be emailed to all registrants after the episode airs\, regardless of attendance. \n\n\n\nWhile this webinar takes place on Zoom\, you can also join us on New Church Ministry’s Facebook page\, where the episode will be streamed live.

SUMMARY:2022 Pentecost Offering: Turning Struggle into Steadfastness
DESCRIPTION:Stories of struggle are nothing new to the church. \n\n\n\nFrom the persecution faced by early Christians to civil rights movements led by faith leaders\, the church has found its strength in times of unrest. \n\n\n\nThe COVID-19 pandemic is yet another chapter in this long history\, both nothing unique and yet entirely different.  \n\n\n\nThrough it all\, Disciples have been steadfast. By launching emerging congregations\, they have stepped up to care for communities in need. \n\n\n\nBut they don’t do it alone. \n\n\n\nWith the help of regional and general ministries\, these brave leaders have been provided with facilities to conduct their outreach activities and with online educational opportunities\, such as Leadership Academy. \n\n\n\nBy making a gift to the 2022 Pentecost Offering\, received in most congregations on Sundays\, May 29 and June 5\, you can ensure that the new church movement continues to prosper in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada. \n\n\n\nEach year\, half of these gifts go to your own region to support local new church development. The other half goes to New Church Ministry\, which trains\, equips\, assists\, and multiplies new church leaders across the U.S. and Canada through programs such as coaching\, New Church Hacks\, and Water the Plants. \n\n\n\nPlanning\, nurturing\, and sustaining new places of worship is part of the Disciples’ vision – participation in this Special Day Offering helps this vision come to life. \n\n\n\nPlease consider making a generous gift to this year’s Pentecost Offering. \n\n\n\nResources\, including graphics\, stories to share\, and videos\, can be found on the Pentecost Offering page located on Disciples Mission Fund (DMF) website. Please note: No bulletin inserts\, posters\, or envelopes will be mailed to congregations\, but they are available on the DMF website. If you need envelopes\, please email supplies@disciples.org  \n\n\n\nStories from previous years’ Pentecost Offerings can be found here.

SUMMARY:North Carolina regional assembly
DESCRIPTION:A NEW WAY TO ASSEMBLE IN NORTH CAROLINA\n\n\n\nDownload the Letter | Register by Mail  \n\n\n\nYou have surely heard that old tagline often used in reference to Gotham and its five boroughs: New York\, New York – the city so nice they named it twice. Well\, the same type of sentiment may be applied to the upcoming Regional Assembly of the Christian Church in North Carolina (CCNC) – so fabulous that one day is not enough. \n\n\n\nThis year\, the region will be dividing its Assembly into two parts – A and B – both of which are being offered virtually this year. Participants will gather around the theme: Telling Our Stories – Vital Conversations. \n\n\n\nJose Martinez (Associate Minister of New Church Ministry) will be attending Assembly A. \n\n\n\nAssembly A: Telling Our Stories April 23rd at 9:30 AM \n\n\n\nIt has been a tough couple of years for congregations\, ministers\, and laypeople of the CCNC. In many\, many ways\, we have not been able to be church and do ministry in the ways that have been most familiar to us. But God has been with us\, stirring us to try new things and venture in new directions. In short\, the wilderness in which we have been traveling has not been devoid of grace\, and we have stories to tell about what these experiences have meant to us. We will start the day with Rev. Chris Furr leading us to recognize and claim this remarkable\, divine presence\, and we will have the opportunity to hear some other brief voices from our region telling some of their stories. There will be the mix of music and celebration\, business and deliberation\, and a closing communion service led by Rev. Bishop Valerie Melvin (North Carolina Regional Minister) to wrap up our storytelling.

SUMMARY:Terrell McTyer's farewell party
DESCRIPTION:Join us to say goodbye to our Minister of New Church Strategies\, Pastor Terrell L. McTyer! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVisit the New Church Ministry Facebook page to watch a live send-off filled with tributes and speakers from across the denomination. \n\n\n\nIf Terrell has made an impact on the life of your faith community (and we’re sure he has)\, make sure to leave a comment under the video. \n\n\n\nTerrell began his work with us in August 2016\, as the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada was already successfully nearing the 2020 Vision goal to form 1\,000 new Disciples congregations. Our ministry continued the momentum of this achievement by convening the New Church Summit\, which set new aspirations for the movement to “make one million new disciples by 2030.” \n\n\n\nUnder his leadership\, the New Church Leadership Cooperative was established to bring together the dedicated leaders and teams of regional new church work to share in the strengthening practices of emerging congregations. \n\n\n\nWith an emphasis on the spiritual grounding of the movement\, Terrell oversaw the launch of Water the Plants — a weekly prayer initiative that has hosted multiple prayer summits. \n\n\n\nOn December 21\, Terrell accepted a position as Executive Director of Global Marketing and Innovation at The Upper Room\, an ecumenical ministry dedicated to supporting the spiritual life of Christians around the world. \n\n\n\nJose Martinez\, Associate Minister of New Church Strategies\, will join Terrell in overlapping leadership until the end of January\, when McTyer begins his new role. \n\n\n\nMartinez has planted churches\, launched innovative ministries\, and served in hospital and military chaplaincy. He joined the New Church Ministry Team in 2019. \n\n\n\nMartinez co-planted Multi Nation Christian Church\, the largest and only Haitian Ministry in the Midwest for the Disciples of Christ. He also founded MissioKC\, a micro-church based in Kansas City\, Mo.\, focused on “helping make the world around us a spiritually healthier place.”
