SUMMARY:CCDA National Conference
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join Rev. Dr. Jose Martinez\, interim Minister of New Church Strategies\, at the Christian Community Development Organization‘s 2022 conference\, where the theme is wellbeing. Here is more information about the event: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTogether\, we will seek Wellbeing for our world\, for our nation\, for our communities\, and for each other. Wellbeing isn’t just about being happy. Rather\, Wellbeing is about finding fulfillment in what we do each day\, the quality of our relationships\, the vibrancy of our spiritual health\, the vitality of our organizations\, and the love we experience in our communities. \n\n\n\nYou can prioritize your Wellbeing by building authentic connections with other Christian Community Development (CCD) leaders and organizers gathered in Charlotte. While there\, you will be able to hear inspirational and relevant sermons\, expand your network of support\, and learn how to help your community experience Wellbeing. \n\n\n\nThis year’s gathering is inspired by Isaiah 40: 29 – 31 which reminds us that God gives power to the faint and strength to the powerless. In other words\, when we “wait” for the Lord\, we can rejoice in knowing that though we sometimes become weary and exhausted\, there remains a path to renewed Wellbeing. CCDA’s National Conference can be your place of “waiting”\, as you seek to remain faithful to God’s call to seek justice with and for the marginalized. \n\n\n\n[God] gives power to the faint\, and strengthens the powerless. Even youths will faint and be weary\, and the young will fall exhausted; but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength\, they shall mount up with wings like eagles\, they shall run and not be weary\, they shall walk and not faint.\nIsaiah 40:29-31\, NRSV\n\nWill you join us on this path to WELLBEING? We can’t wait to see you in Charlotte 🙌🏾

SUMMARY:Georgia Regional Assembly
DESCRIPTION:We are happy to announce that Rev. Dr. Jose Martinez (interim Minister of New Church Strategies) will be delivering a workshop\, accompanied by Program Coordinator Wesley King\, on pandemic-informed church at the Christian Church in Georgia’s in-person Regional Assembly. \n\n\n\nParticipants at the assembly will be convening around the theme “Re-church: Re-cast Your Net” from John 21. \n\n\n\nIn this chapter\, we read of the disciples who\, when faced with a new reality\, tried to go back to fishing—and the way they’d always done it. But even that — what they thought they knew — was no longer working. That’s when Jesus showed up and said\, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat\, and you will find some.” With their nets breaking from the fish they had caught\, they recognized Jesus. \n\n\n\nWith the new realities faced by churches and people of faith\, it’s time to discover where Jesus is inviting us to cast our nets. Hosted by First Christian Church\, Athens\, the 170th Georgia Regional Assembly will include opportunities for learning\, worship\, and reconnecting for Disciples of all ages. Here are some highlights: \n\n\n\nFood Truck Tailgate Dinner will open the Regional Assembly on Friday evening at 5 pm. This is a town that knows how to tailgate —you won’t want to miss the fun and reconnecting!\n\n\n\nOpening Worship is November 11\, at 7 pm\, featuring Rev. Dr. Amy Butler\, Interim Senior Minister of National City Christian Church\, Washington\, D.C.Youth will participate in the Regional Assembly with Youth Lock-in Friday evening through Saturday. A Children’s Program for grades K-5 and Nursery Care for infants through Pre-K also will be available Friday evening and Saturday.Saturday Session for November 12 includes Rev. SUMMARY:Creating Best Practices for Creation Care
DESCRIPTION:Hurricanes. Floods. Heatwaves. Our world is experiencing an increased amount of these natural disasters because of rising temperatures. What can Disciples do to address climate change and be responsible stewards of the environment? Learn the answer to this question and much more with host and Transitional Minister of New Church Strategies\, Rev. Dr. Jose Martinez\, at New Church Ministry’s New Church Hacks webinar. \n\n\n\nPanellists\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDavid Bell is the Minister for Indigenous Justice at the Center for Indigenous Ministries (DOC). In this role\, David has helped guide the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) to recognize its settler-colonist roots\, repudiate the Doctrine of Discovery\, become more honest with its racist origins\, and engage in action-based Indigenous justice. \n\n\n\nThe son of Robert and Kay Bell\, David lives on the JustLiving Farm\, located in the Toppenish Creek valley of the Yakama Nation. With friends and neighbors\, the JustLiving Farm has become a place where folk are welcome to spend time talking about\, imagining\, and acting in favor of Creational justice. Believing creational wholeness and harmony is at our fingertips\, David invites us to question how our lives intersect with our local landscape\, listen for Creation’s insight to enhance our sibling’s well-being\, and open ourselves to her plea for action. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDan Paul is the Senior Pastor of First Christian Church of Huntsville\, TX. He will be consulting in oversight of Blue Theology with Creation Justice Ministries and will be part of the staff at the Blue Theology Outpost in Texas City\, Texas. He previously served at the Christian Church of Pacific Grove where he was the director of the Blue Theology Mission Station on the Monterey Bay. \n\n\n\n\n“In a time where there is a lot of ‘bad theology’ preached denying the climate crisis\, it is crucial that mainline church leaders speak out about how human beings are interdependent with nature and not removed from it.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBrooks Berndt is the UCC’s Environmental Justice Minister. Before becoming the UCC Minister for Environmental Justice in 2015\, Berndt served as a pastor in Vancouver\, Washington\, where he was active in two successful environmental campaigns: transitioning the state of Washington away from its only coal plant and preventing the establishment of the largest marine oil terminal in the country in Vancouver. Berndt is the author of two books: Sounding the Trumpet: How Churches Can Answer God’s Call to Justice and Cathedral on Fire!: A Church Handbook for the Climate Crisis. As the Minister for Environmental Justice\, Berndt led the way in the issuing of the UCC’s 2020 report entitled “Breath to the People: Sacred Air and Toxic Pollution” which identifies 100 of the nation’s super polluters and how their toxic emissions threaten communities and children\, especially in places such as Houston\, Louisiana’s Cancer Alley\, and Ohio’s Lake Erie coast. Berndt writes and edits an environmental justice newsletter called The Pollinator\, while co-hosting monthly Creation Justice Webinars which have featured everyone from the climate scientist Katherine Hayhoe to Senator Cory Booker.
